CHAPTER 22 UNAPPROVED MONTHLY MEETING MINUTES

A new feature has been added to the Chapter webpage for those of our members who are unable to attend the meetings and would like to keep abrest of what is currently happening with Chapter 22.  We will now be publishing the UNAPPROVED monthly meeting minutes from the chapter. When the minutes have been approved it will be so noted. If you have and issue with the minutes please attend the next meeting and voice your objection prior to the minutes being approved.

MONTHLY MEETING MINUTES

May 18,, 2017

Brainerd VFW, Brainerd, MN

 

Commander Dave Meyer called the meeting to order at 1908 hours.  Chaplain Ed Nelson led the chapter in prayer.  The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

 

The adjutant read the roll call of officers:

10 members and officers and 2 visitors were in attendance.

 

The minutes of the last meeting were made available.  Ed Nelson made a motion to accept the minutes.  Marty Judd seconded.  Motion passed.

 

The Treasurers Report was provided.  There is $19,434.52 in savings and $15,479.97 in checking for a total of $34,914.49.  A motion was made by Jack Owen  to accept the report as read and was seconded by Mark Strobel.  The motion passed.    

 

Bills Against the Chapter:  Help Veteran with Auto Repair $871.98, Clothing Drive Expensse $2,642.74, Postage and Office supplies $72.37, Color Guard Expenses $103.59, Convention Expenses $335.63, Veterans on the Lake Fishing Trip Donation $500, Middle River Veterans Hunt $500, Old Glory Run Donation $1,000, DAV Department Donation to Stephen Whitehead’s campaign $500.  Total = $6,526.31

 

Sickness & Distress:.   Keith Gardner moving into one-level home.

 

Applications for Membership:  Two. Richard Tomes nd Rolund Wetterlund.  .  Motion to accept by Jack Owen, seconed by Mike Williams.  Passed

           

New members Present:  None

 

Communications::  News from the internet and Bob Jones.

 

Ceremonies:  Two funerals at Little Falls Vets Cemetery.  Color Guard to meet at 7:00 am on Saturday for the Old Glory Run.  Will switch to ties for funerals and retain ascots for parades.

 

Fundraiser:  Trailer struggle.  Crosby Youth group would like to have one or two bins in Crosby so they could bag up contents and transport to Brainerd.  Bring trailer to high school Saturday to pick up left-overs from sale. 

 

Service Officer:  No report. 

 

Good of The Order:  Nothing.

 

Old Business:  Will take $800 to $900 to fix Shyla’s car.  Approved to $2,000.  Motion by Mike Williams to pay for repair and seconded by Steve Rosenow.  Motion passed.  Stephen Whitehead needs financial assistance in campaign for National Jr. Vice.  Ed Nelson made a motion to donate $500 and Marty Judd amended to $1000 but seconded to $500.  Motion passed.

 

New Business:  Have two power chairs at Dorcas.  Need to pick up.  Talk to Richard Tomes about them.  Veterans Outdoors Goose hunt at Middle River soliciting funds.  Jack Owen made a motion to donate $500.  Bob Jones seconded and motion passed.  MN State Veterans Home Silver Bay soliciting funds fofr Lake Superior fishing trip. Steve Rosenow moved to donate $500 and Bob Jones seconded.  Motion passed.  Old Glory Run Dept of MN solicited funds.  Ed Nelson made a motion to donate $1000 and was seconded by Marty Judd.  Motion passed.  State convention information and by-laws are available.

 

The county needs a new van.  Need authorization to apply for a van.. Jack Owen made a motion to support the purchase of a van and Bob Jones seconded.  The motion passed.

 

The Memorial Service was observed.

A final salute to the flag and Chaplains Prayer by Dave Meyer followed.  Bob Jones made a motion to adjourn.  The motion passed.  The meeting was adjourned at 8:02 pm.

The minutes of the last meeting were made available.  Jack Owen made a motion to accept the minutes.  Ed Nelson seconded.  Motion passed.

 

The Treasurers Report was provided.  There is $19,434.52 in savings and $15,479.97 in checking for a total of $34,914.49.  A motion was made by Ed Nelson to accept the report as read and was seconded by Steve Rosenow.  The motion passed.

Sickness & Distress:.   Robert Branson passed away.  Chapter sent flower arrangement.  Keith Gardner got feeing tube, chair, van from VA now looking for a one-level home.

 

Applications for Membership:  One.  Richard Schmidt.  Motion to accept by Jack Owen, seconed by Mike Williams.  Passed

           

New members Present:  None

 

Communications::  Convention materials.

 

Ceremonies: Honor guard will not have to post colors at convention.  Color Guard is needed to post colors at the Stand Down.  Funeral, 10:30 at Legion.  Old Glory Run is May 20th and the Color Guard needs to be there for the ceremony.  Dave, Mike, Dave, Steve and Tim will go..

 

Fundraiser:  Continuing to haul two trailers per week to St. Cloud and Minneapolis.

 

Service Officer:  No report. 

 

Good of The Order:  Nothing.

 

Old Business:Shyla Jensen fund raiser at VFW went well.  Raised $$2000.  Power chairs, needed by Bob Hummel.  Will send a power chair to person in Emily, MN.  Vets on the Hill had 70 on the

 

Bus.  Had fac time with Josh Heinzmen and Dale Luek and Rep. Posen.  No new legislation on the Federal side.  A couple of County Commissioners are again criticizing Bob Nelson, CVSO.  Nothing substantive, just heresay.  Chapter supports CVSO.  Will be Stand Down Tuesday, 4/25..  Dan Parks Cycle Ride is coming up.

 

New Business:  Received a request for $2000 donation to help Dave Allison pay for teeth pull and dentures.  Mike made motion to pay and was seconded by Steve Rosenow.  Motion carried.  Amanda needs another $325 for rent to be up to date.  Matt Gilgenbach made a motion to pay the amount and was seconded by Mark Strobel.  Motion passed. 

            Elections:  Commander = Dave Meyer, Senior Vice = Jack Owen, Jr. Vice = Wayne Erickson, Treasurer = Tim Brastrup.  Appointed Tim Brastrup Adjutant, Steve Rosenow Service Officer, Wilbert Gildart Sgt At Arms, and Ed Nelson, Chaplain.  Jack Owen Installed all officers.

           

The Memorial Service was observed.

A final salute to the flag and Chaplain’s prayer by Ed Nelson followed.

Ed Nelson made a motion to adjourn.  The motion passed.  The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 pm. 

 

The net meeting will be May 18, 2017.

Commander Pro Tem Tim Brastrup called the meeting to order at 1858 hours.  Chaplain Ed Nelson led the chapter in prayer.  The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Visitors Steve Eisenreich an Shane Austin, of Wounded Worriers and Homeless Vets of Minnesota, visited chapter members to introduce the services that they provide, such as support for housing, food and suicide prevention.  They operate with donations and are a 501(c)3 organization.  They left some brochures and will formally request a donation from the chapter soon.

 

The minutes of the last meeting were made available.  Bill Wroolie made a motion to accept the minutes.  Mike Williams seconded.  Motion passed.

 

The Treasurers Report was provided.  There is $19,427.40 in savings and $23,491.02 in checking for a total of $42,918.42.  A motion was made by Ed Nelson to accept the report as read and was seconded by Richard Turner.  The motion passed.

Communications::  donation of $30 from Douglas and Linda Mac Arthur, Thank you from the General John W. Vessey Jr. Chapter, Association of the United States Army for the $500 donation.  News Letter from Breath of life.

 

Ceremonies: Did one ceremony for MRS on 1/6/17. 

Legislative:  Please see the Chapter Website at davmn22webmaster@yahoo.com for updates.  Vets on the Hill at Capital.  The issue of up to $225,000 ceiling on tax deferred or seven to eight years.  Travel pay for Ed Nelson, for trip for an appointment at Minneapolis VA was denied due to problems with kiosk.  Now since is over 30 days old is being denied.  Ed went to Congressman Nolan’s office for help.  Bill Wroolie made a motion to support the cost of taking a bus to the capital on March 20th for Vets on the Hill.  Pete Smude seconded the motion.  The motion passed.

 

Fundraiser:  Wilbert and Dianne Gildart are emptying bins in Brainerd and Baxter.  Ed Nelson is also working bins in Pine River Crosslake, and Nisswa.  Ed will need to travel to Crosslake to empty the two bins because Common Goods Manager’s husband cannot empty them any longer and Wilbert and Diane cannot either. 

 

Service Officer:  No report.  Bill Wroolie will be in Washington DC for Purple Heart Directors meeting.  He will also be meeting with Commissioner of the MN DVA Shelito and will ask about possibly getting money for dental work for Dave Allison.  His dental work will be about $7,000.  His financial manager will wait to  hear if he can get the money.  Otherwise there would have to be donations from all local vets clubs.

 

Good of The Order:  None

 

Old Business: There is still discussion by the military about standby flights for 100% vets.  Ed Nekson’s request for money to upgrade his house windows was brought up, asking him if he was able to find alternative funding.  He said he did not.

 

New Business:  The previous reply to Ed was for him to check other sources of money because the request wa for a want, not a need.  Commander pro tem Brastrup reiterated that it would not be appropriate to fund  the project because his windows passed inspection when the house was built and are not broken, therefore not a need.  A motion was made to place the request on the table by Bill Wroolie and was seconded by Pete Smude.  The motion passed and can only be bdiscussed again if there is a motion and second to do so.
